Replace the Cougar Statue? Change the way we enter?

Should we replace the cougar statue with a huge rock?  And what about our entrance? Could we look into doing something totally different than the traditional fight song or any entrance song?  What do you think?

I think it's nice to consider making a big change. Since we are trying to kick out the old ways of doing things and start a new way. Still, we should be careful to not completely part with the traditions that are good. We can't "throw the baby out with the bath water" to use an old quote. As far the fight song - I think that gets the kids pumped up... I'd be interested to know the idea for how or what to replace that with....

  2. No Offense to the band, but personally as a player I believe running out of the smoke filled tunnel with a really hype song playing over the speaker system would really get the team pumped.

  3. No offense, but the band has done a great job of playing the fight song at football games for a long time and they are exponentially growing, whereas the football team can sometimes be disappointing to the fans and is having trouble keeping players. The fight song is primarily the band's way of supporting the football team, so taking that away would hurt the football team more than anyone could know, until it happens.

  4. We'll not leave out the band.

Whoever thinks the football team is losing players has bad info. Numbers in the football program have grown steadily over the last 8 years. We may top 100 this year which will be a first in RCHS history.

  5. The team has consistently talked about how a more exciting entrance through the tunnel gets them hyped up. I think the band will always be included in supporting the team, but I don't think this is the time to do it anymore.

  6. The team needs to start getting hyped up on Monday and the entrance and ensuing performance becomes a crescendo. If they are thinking the entrance gets them hyped, then we are in trouble.
The band will be a part of the entrance. "Get used to it, accept it, embrace it."

  7. i agree with the coach on this one. As a former player its nice to know its sorta the samething. If i could make a suggestion though, The cougar on the rock should be at the entrance. This a good luck charm and the team should embrace it more or at least run up to it and break down there. I know in 90's they did. Watched my brother do it before and after every game. Just a thought.

  8. We need to support the football team period. If there is no team there is no use for a band, they have concerts and other engagements that we can support them on. Lets not be like Morehead fans i went to there home opener and the fans cheered more for the band than they did for the team and thats not right

  9. Ok here is how it is. The band in the player's eyes thinks that people come to the game to see them preform. They are completely off their rocker. The main focus of friday nights is on the eleven players on the field playing for pride honor and respect not a band that will simply leave when there is a slight rain storm. The players should be focused on winning rather then being worried about getting hyped up. Put up a couple of w's then we can talk about hype. Players remenber when you step out on that field on friday night that yopu are not out there anlone you are on the field with your closest friends and every person that has worn that silver and black jersey. Wear your jersey with pride and respect and never let anyone tell you different.

  10. Why do y'all have to put down the Band? Have they not supported this team throughout each and every season. Just because kids don't donn football gear on friday night doesn't mean they are worthless to the team or the school.

You say that the band has other events that "we can support them at"....how many of you have ACTUALLY come out and supported the band at ANY of their "other" events? I pay to see the football team play BUT I also pay to see and hear my band student on friday night as well.

Have a little respect for all the kids at the school...there are good kids both on and off that field!
